We were heading out the door in a rush to the first MOPS meeting of the year. My hands were full with my coffee cup and the cinnamon rolls I was bringing to share. Adam was already out at the car loading up the rest of his things. My little guy came running out onto the porch with his arms FULL of his most prized possesions....2 cars, a minature semi-truck, and his Thomas train.
"Come on, buddy, we've gotta go," I urged.
Without a moments hesitation, he handed me the train and the truck so that he had a free hand to hold mine, and hopped down the stairs!
I'm sure he had no idea, but that moment meant a lot to me! He trusted his mommy enough to quickly hand over the things that meant the most to him.
He didn't negotiate with me first....
*"Now mommy, you realize that these are MY toys, so if I hand them to you, I expect that you'll give them back as soon as I'm down the stairs, ok?"
*"Mommy, please be VERY careful with Thomas! I don't want you to break him!"
*"I'd really like to hold your hand, Mommy, but I just don't think I can hand over my cars right now! Maybe later?"
However,
All of us have negotiated with our Heavenly Father!!
*"Lord, if I give this area over, you'll eventually give it back, right??"
*"Please be VERY careful this situation, Lord! I don't want anything to get messed up!"
*"I just think that I can handle this struggle in my life all by myself! I'm not ready quite yet to give it over to you, Lord. Maybe later!"
What we don't stop to consider is what scripture says in Isaiah 43:2:

"When you pass through the waters, I will be with you,
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze."
If anyone is qualified and able to take care of our most prized and precious belongings, it is HIM!!
What are you holding back from Him today??
