It seems like all of my future plans lately have included comments like these. I've been living with the knowledge of the imminence of my little boy's arrival. He's coming soon, but I just don't know exactly when or how at this point! That fact will permeate all of my thinking and planning until he makes his appearance!
Practically, however, there is still much that needs to be accomplished before October 14. The dirty clothes and dishes won't clean themselves. There are floors to vacuum, beds to make, meals to prepare, books to read, etc. You get the point! As much as I would like it, waiting for my sweet baby's arrival doesn't mean sitting on the couch 24 hours a day!
As believers, we too are waiting on the imminent return of our Savior. We don't know when, but we do know that it He IS indeed coming. Scripture tells us repeatedly that we ought to be prepared for His arrival. For instance,
"For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord."
I Thessalonians 4:15-17
The question, then, is how do we practically live in light of Christ's coming? In other words, do we simply stay home, read Scripture, and anxiously search for any possible sign of His return? That would be nice, however we are told in II Peter 3:14 to be steadfast,
"Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless;"
While our daily and long-term decisions and plans ought to be made in light of that glorious day, we still have much to do! There are lives to touch, needs to meet, verses to hide in our hearts (Psalm 119:11), etc.
I want His imminent arrival to permeate all of my thinking and planning until He makes His appearance!!
*What about you? You you find it difficult to live in light of the Lord's return? How do you practically keep it at the forefront of your mind?
