A steady rain (literally): Part 2....

Well, yesterday I wrote about our heavy rains recently and our trusty pump in the basement taking care of all that excess water. I also talked about how so many of our worries don't ever come true. Last night, Adam and I were enjoying a nice evening cuddling on the couch when we heard another strange noise in the pipes. I asked Adam if he could just check in the basement to make sure that everything was all right (just to ease my mind a little). He returned to the living room saying that there was a layer of water covering the entire basement floor. I totally thought he was joking. I was sure that he had read my blog earlier and was just playing a practical joke. He wasn't. I went downstairs and saw firsthand that the pump had indeed overflowed and spilled out to cover about 90% of the floor. Thankfully, I love plastic storage totes, and many of our belongings are stored safely in them. However, there are the stray cardboard boxes and suitcases that got soaked. After I surveyed the damage, I started thinking. I had just written that we shouldn't worry about the possibility of things happening when most of them will never occur, but what if our worries DO come true. Well, the same verse really does hold true in those situations. Isaiah 55:8 says, "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways, my ways, says the Lord." It's easy to apply this verse in huge trials in our lives, but harder in the day-to-day struggles. We feel the need to "fix" it ourselves, but no matter what the circumstance our need is always the same. Phil. 4:19 says, "And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus." The same God who provided my salvation is the same One who will help us in this daily "crisis"!!
Hopefully, in the next couple of days, I will have more to talk about than the water pump in the basement. I am thinking of changing my blog title to, "Lessons from the Basement"! =)
